The U.S. has long funded biological threat-reduction, biosafety, and disease-surveillance work at foreign public health and veterinary labs, including Ukrainian-owned facilities that handled dangerous pathogens. But the claim that this program was secretly covered up, that the labs were U.S.-run bioweapons facilities, or that today’s newly released documents prove widespread dangerous gain-of-function research is not supported by the public record or by the documents themselves.
